With smaller needles, cast on 117 (131,145,159,173). Knit 7 rows.
Body
Change to larger needles and work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 13 (131/2,14,14V!? 15)”. Shape armholes
At beginning of next 2 rows, bind off 7 (9, 11, 13, 15), then Dec 1 each side every RS row 5 (6, 7, 8,9) times —93 (101, 109, 117, 125) stitches. Continue even until armhole measures IVi (7!/2, 8, 8, 8V2)”. K25 (27, 30, 32, 34), bind off 43 (47,49, 53, 57), knit to end. Place 25 (27, 30, 32, 34) stitches from each shoulder on hold.
Front
Work as for Back until armhole shaping is complete, end with a WS row,
Shape cowl
Next row (RS) K25 (27, 30, 32, 34), place marker (pm), KOK, p41 (45, 47, 51, 55), KOK, pm, k25 (27, 30, 32, 34). Next row (WS) Purl. [Next row Knit to marker, purl to next marker, knit to end. Next row Purl. Next row (RS) Knit to marker, KOK, purl to 1 stitch before next marker KOK, knit to end. Next row Purl.] 12 times —145 (153,161,169, 177) stitches. Work even until piece measures same as Back, end with a WS row.
Finishing Join shoulders
With RS facing, join shoulders with 3-needle bind-off to first marker, purl to next marker and put those stitches on hold, join second shoulder with 3-needle bind-off to end, fasten off.
With circular needle and beginning at right shoulder seam, pick up and knit (PUK) 1 stitch in each bound-off stitch along back neck, then knit front neck stitches. Pm for beginning of round. Work 6 rounds in garter stitch (purl 1 round, knit 1 round). Next row Bind off in purl.
Armhole band
With smaller needles, PUK along armhole at a rate of 3 stitches for every 4 rows. Knit 7 rows. Bind off, Sew side seams and bands at underarm.
