Striped scarf- knitting pattern

This super-cosy scarf is knitted in a fabulously warm pure wool and will brighten up winter days with its colourful zigzags. By Carol Meldrum

YOU WILL NEED
Novita Nordic Wool (100% wool, 50g/115m) 3 balls of Yarn A Sand (60)
1 ball each of:
Yarn B Squirrel (645)
Yarn C Petrol (180)
Yarn D Christmas (549)
Yarn E Moss (337)
Yarn F Saffron (287)
A pair of 4.5mm needles
A pair of 5mm needles

TENSION
22 sts and 27 rows to measure 10x10cm (4x4in) over st st using 4.5mm needles
22 sts and 27 rows to measure
10x10cm (4x4in) over Fair Isle patt using 5mm needles

MEASUREMENTS
Width (across bias row) 19.5cm (7¾ in)
Length 180cm (70¾ in)

Top TIP: When working Fair Isle, ensure you always strand the same colour above or below the other (the colour you would like to be dominant on top), to keep a consistent, even look.

HOW TO USE OUR CHARTS
Start at the bottom right-hand corner. Read all rounds from right to left. A row of squares represents
a row of knitting.

STRIPED SCARF
Note Check your tension and change your needles as needed to
keep the tension for the Fair Isle and Plain panels the same.
INCREASE POINT
Cast on 3 sts using Yarn A and 4.5mm needles.
Row 1 (RS) Knit.
Row 2 (WS) Knit.
Row 3 K1, M1, K1, M1, K1. [5 sts] Row 4 Knit.
Row 5 K1, M1, knit to last st, M1, K1. [2 sts inc’d] Row 6 K3, purl to last 3 sts, K3.
Rep Rows 5 and 6 a further 18 times, ending with a WS row. [43 sts] FAIR ISLE PANEL
Change to 5mm needles and join in Yarn B.
Stranding yarn not in use loosely behind work and continuing in st st for Chart, work as follows:

CONT IN PATT
[Rep Fair Isle Panel in full once, rep Plain Panel in full once] 5 times, then rep only Fair Isle Panel in full once again, remembering to change needles to keep tension similar between panels.
DECREASE POINT
Change to 4.5mm needles and cont using only Yarn A for this section.
Row 1 (RS) K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, ssk, K1. [2 sts dec’d] Row 2 (WS) K3, purl to last 3 sts, K3.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 a further 17 times, ending with a WS row. [7 sts] Next row (RS) K1, ssk, K1, ssk, K1. [5 sts] Next row (WS) Knit.
Next row K1, sk2po, K1. [3 sts] Next row Knit.
Cast off.

Weave in all ends. Block gently to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band
