16½ sts and 23 rows = 4 inches/10cm in Cable & Eyelet pat, using larger needles, after dropping sts (blocked).
Note: The ladder from each dropped st is counted as a st when measuring gauge. To save time, take time to check gauge.

Pattern Stitches
Cable & Eyelet (multiple of 11 sts)
Note: A chart is provided for those preferring to work Cable & Eyelet pat st from a chart.

Pattern Note
Body of shrug is worked back and forth in 1 piece. Stitches are dropped on the bind-off row, then unraveled down to the cast-on row. Stitches are picked up for the collar and cuffs and worked in the round.

Body
With larger needles, cast on 57 (68, 68, 79, 79) sts.
Purl 1 row.
Row 1 (RS): K1 (edge st, keep in St st), work Cable & Eyelet pat to last st, k1 (edge st, keep in St st).
Work even until you have completed 23 (25, 27, 29, 31) vertical reps of Cable & Eyelet pat; piece should measure approx 28¼ (30¾, 33¾, 35¼, 38¾) inches.Bind-off row (RS): K1, *drop 1 st, bind off 4 sts, drop 1 st, bind off 6 sts; rep from * to last st, bind off 1 st. Fasten off. Unravel dropped sts back to cast-on edge.

Finishing
Block to measurements. With RS facing, fold piece in half lengthwise. Sew side seams for 6 (6¾, 7½, 8¼, 9) inches in from each end, leaving 20 (21¼, 22½, 23¾, 25¼) inches unsewn in center.

Collar
With RS facing, using smaller circular needle and beg at 1 side seam, pick up and knit 1 st per row [approx 224 (240, 244, 256, 264) sts] around open center edge of body; pm for beg of rnd and join. Note: Exact st count isn’t essential, but must be a multiple of 4 sts. Work in 2×2 Rib for 4⛅ inches. Bind off all sts loosely in pat.

Cuff
With RS facing, using dpns and beg at side seam, pick up and knit 1 st per st along bind-off row, skipping ladders from dropped sts; pm for beg of rnd and join.
