Sizes
Child’s/adult’s small (adult’s medium, adult’s large)
Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.

Hand circumference: 7 (8, 9) inches
Length: 9¼(10¼, 11¼) inches
Materials
• Cascade Magnum (100% Peruvian Highland wool; super bulky weight yarn; 123 yds/250g per hank):
1 hank amethyst heather #9453
• Size 11 (8mm) set of double-point needles
• Size 13 (9mm) set of double-point needles or size needed to obtain gauge
• Circular stitch markers (see Pattern Notes)
• Small stitch holder
Gauge
10 sts and 14 rnds = 4 inches/10cm in St st with larger needles.
To save time, take time to check gauge.
Pattern Notes
It’s helpful to use 2 same-color markers for the gusset stitches and a different color for the beginning-
of-round marker.
If you prefer to use the Magic-Loop method , you will need circular needles at least 32 inches long.
Special Abbreviations
Make 1 Right (M1R): Insert LH needle from back to front under horizontal strand between st on RH needle and
st on LH needle; insert RH needle into front of strand, twisting it and k1 in resulting loop.
Make 1 Left (M1L): Insert LH needle from back to front under horizontal strand between st on RH needle and
st on LH needle; insert RH needle into back of strand, twisting it and k1 in resulting loop.
Mittens
Make 2 alike
With smaller needles, cast on 17 (19, 21) sts. Divide sts on dpns, mark beg of rnd and join without twisting.
Rnd 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * around.
Rnd 2: P1, *k1, p1; rep from * around.
Rnds 3–6: Rep [Rnds 1 and 2] twice.
Rnd 7: Kfb in first st, knit around—18 (20, 22) sts.
Rnd 8 (size large only; skip this rnd for sizes small and medium): Knit around
Rnds 9–11: Knit around.
Rnd 12: K9 (10, 11), M1R, knit to end—19 (21, 23) sts.
Rnd 13: K9 (10, 11) sts, pm, k1, pm, knit to end.
Rnd 14: Knit to marker, M1R, k1, M1L, knit to end—3 sts between gusset markers.
Rnd 15: Knit around.
Rnd 16: Knit to marker, M1R, knit to next marker, M1L, knit to end—5 sts between gusset markers.
Rep [Rnds 15 and 16] 1 (2, 2) times—7 (9, 9) sts between gusset markers.
Rnd 18 (size large only; skip this rnd for size small and medium): Knit around.
Rnd 19: Knit to marker, place next 7 (9, 9) gusset sts on holder, removing markers, use backward-loop method
(see page 127) to cast on 1 st over gap left by gusset sts, knit to end.
Rnd 20 (sizes small and medium only; skip this rnd for size large): K9 (10, 0), k2tog, knit to end of rnd—18 (20, 23) sts. Knit all rnds until mitten measures 7¼(8½, 9¾) inches from cast-on edge.

Size Medium Only
Rnd 1: *K3, k2tog; rep from * to end—
16 sts.
Rnd 2: Knit around.

Size Large Only
Rnd 1: [K4, k2tog] 3 times, knit to end—20 sts.
Rnd 2: Knit around.
Rnd 3: *K3, k2tog; rep from * to end— 16 sts.
Rnd 4: Knit around.

All Sizes
Rnd 1: *K2, k2tog; rep from *
around—12 sts Rnds 2 and 4: Knit around.
Rnd 3: *K1, k2tog; rep from * around—8 sts.
Rnd 5: *K2tog; rep from * around—4 sts. Remove marker and cut yarn, leaving a tail approx 8 inches long. Using a yarn needle, thread yarn through rem sts and pull tight to close hole. Pass tail to inside and weave in securely.
Thumb
Remove gusset sts from holder and distribute on 2 or 3 dpns. Attach yarn, leaving an 8-inch tail; pick up and knit 2 sts, pm, pick up and knit 1 st—10 (12, 12) sts.
Rnd 1: Knit to 3 sts before marker, ssk, k1—9 (11, 11) sts.
Rnd 2: K2tog, knit to end—8 (10, 10) sts.
Knit all rnds until thumb measures 1¼ (1¾, 2) inches.
Shape Tip
Size Small Only
Rnd 1: K2tog around—4 sts.
Rnd 2: Knit around. Sizes Large (Medium) Only
Rnd 1: [K1, k2tog, k2tog] twice—(6, 6) sts.
Rnd 2: Knit around.
Rnd 3: K2tog around—(3, 3) sts.
Remove marker and cut yarn, leaving a tail approx 8 inches long. Using a yarn needle, thread yarn through rem sts and pull tight to close hole. Pass tail to inside and weave in securely.
Using yarn tail at base of thumb, close any gaps and weave in securely. ■
