Materials
• Berroco Remix Light (DK weight; 30% nylon/27% cotton/ 24% acrylic/10% silk/9% linen; 432 yds/100g per ball): 3 balls #6901 birch (A), 1 ball each of #6971 cameo pink (B), #6903 almond (C), #6922 buttercup (D) and #6919 mist (E)
• Size 4 (3.5mm) double-point needles (set of 5) and 16- and 40-inch circular needles or size needed to
obtain gauge
• Removable stitch markers

Gauge
21 sts and 48 rows = 4 inches/10cm in garter st.
To save time, take time to check gauge

Special Abbreviation
Centered Double Decrease (CDD): Sl 2 sts as if to k2tog, k1, p2sso to dec 2 sts.

Pattern Notes
Squares and Triangles are worked in garter stitch from outer edge into center. Squares and Triangles are joined as you go, following the color chart. Every Square or Triangle uses A as its beginning color; the color chart
indicates which color is worked as the alternating color with A.
Always pick up and knit with the right side facing. Change to double-point needles when stitches no longer fit on circular needle.

Square 1
Work with colors A and B. With A and short circular needle, cast on 108 sts (26 sts per side + 4 corner
sts), join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Purl, placing markers on 14th, 41st, 68th and 95th sts.
Rnd 2: [Knit to 1 st before marked st, CDD] 4 times, knit to end—100 sts.
Rnd 3: Purl around, knit the sts with markers.
Rnds 4 and 5: With B, rep [Rnds 2 and 3]—92 sts.
Rnds 6 and 7: With A, rep [Rnds 2 and 3]—84 sts.
Rnds 8–23: Rep [Rnds 4–7] 4 more times—20 sts.
Rnds 24 and 25: With B, rep [Rnds 2 and 3]—12 sts.
Rnd 26: With A, k2tog around—4 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail. Weave tail through rem sts and pull tight.

Square 2
Work with colors A and C.
Foundation rnd: With A and short circular needle, pick up and knit 13 sts from half the side of previous Square
out to the left corner, pick up and knit 1 st in the corner, with cable cast-on method (see page 80), cast on 80 sts, pick up and knit 1 st in the right corner of same previous Square and knit 13 sts from the corner to the middle of the side to finish the foundation rnd. With C as the alternating color, work as [Rnds 1–26] on Square 1.

Square 3
Work with colors A and D.
Work as Square 2, picking up sts on Square 1 along the side to the left of Square 2.

Square 4
Work with colors A and D.
Work as Square 2, picking up sts on Square 2 along the right upper side.

Square 5
Work with colors A and E.
Foundation rnd: With A and short circular needle, pick up and knit 13 sts from half the side of Square 2 out to the left corner, pick up and knit 1 st in the corner between Squares 2 and 3, pick up and knit 26 sts along the side of Square 3 out to the left corner, pick up and knit 1 st in the corner, with cable cast-on method,
cast on 53 sts, pick up and knit 1 st in the right corner of Square 2 and pick up and knit 13 sts from the corner to the middle of the side to finish the foundation rnd. With E as the alternating color, work
as [Rnds 1–26] on previous Squares.

Designer’s TIP:

When working on double-point needles, I found it easier on these small squares to work with needles made of bamboo or wood instead of metal.

Squares 6–21
Work and attach the rem Squares the same way following the color chart.

Triangle 22
Work with colors A and B.
Foundation row (RS): With A and short circular needle, cast on 27 sts, pick up and knit 1 st in the upper right
corner of Square 16, then pick up and knit 26 sts along the right upper side to the corner, pick up and knit 1 st in the corner, turn—55 sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit, placing marker on 28th st.
Row 2 (RS): Ssk, knit to 1 st before marked st, CDD, knit to last 2 sts, k2tog—51 sts. Row 3: P1, knit to marked st, purl marked st, knit to last st, purl last st.
Rows 4 and 5: With B, rep [Rows 2 and 3]—47 sts.
Rows 6 and 7: With A, rep [Rows 2 and 3]—43 sts.
Rows 8–23: Rep [Rows 4–7] 4 more times—11 sts.
Rows 24 and 25: With B, rep [Rows 2 and 3]—7 sts.
Row 26: With A, ssk, CDD, k2tog—3 sts.
Cut yarn, leaving a 4-inch tail.
Weave tail through rem sts and pull tight.

Triangle 23
Work with colors A and E.
Foundation row (RS): With A and short circular needle, pick up and knit 1 st in the upper corner of Square 16, then pick up and knit 26 sts down along the side to the corner between Squares 16 and 17, pick up and knit 1 st in the corner, then pick up and knit 26 sts up along the side of Square 17 to the corner, pick up and knit 1 st in the upper corner, turn—55 sts.
With E as the alternating color, work as [Rows 1–26] on Triangle 22.

Triangles 24–28
Work and attach the rem 5 Triangles the same way following the color chart

Bottom Border
Row 1 (RS): With long circular needle and A, pick up and knit sts along the diagonal side down to the tip (picking up 1 st in the tip) and up along the other diagonal side. Pick up approx 27 sts per Square. Pm on the st in the tip—approx 379 sts.
Row 2: *K2, yo; rep from * across to last st, yo, k1—approx 567 sts.
Row 3: Knit across, working into back of yo’s to twist the st.
Row 4: K1, yo, knit across to marked st in tip, yo, k1, yo, knit across to last st, yo, k1.
Rep [Rows 3 and 4] until border measures approx 2 inches.
Bind off loosely.

Top Edge
Row 1 (RS): With A and long circular needle, pick up and knit sts along the upper edge. Pick up approx 20 sts along end of border each side and 41 sts per Square—approx 329 sts.
Row 2: Knit.
Row 3: K1, yo, knit across to last st, yo, k1.
Row 4: Knit across, working into back of yo’s to twist the st.
Rep [Rows 3 and 4] 1 more time.
Bind off loosely.
Weave in ends.
Block to measurements.
